About Jacob Meyer

Jacob began practicing yoga at age 21 when he moved to San Francisco in 2002. Raised in the Boston area, Jacob adopted a stereotypical northeast mindset that emphasized pursuit of academic, athletic and professional achievement, as measured by external indicators such as grades, awards, trophies and the praise of family, peers and community. As a deeply anxious child and teen, Jacob pursued these traditional markers of “success” as a substitute for genuine self-inquiry and self-acceptance and the unshakeable confidence that comes with knowing who and what you actually are.

In yoga, rather than yet another opportunity to prove his value relative to others, Jacob found a practice in which he could set aside judgment, explore his internal physical, mental and emotional landscape and experience growth arising out of honoring his limits rather than ignoring or pushing through them.

In the following 22 years, Jacob’s practice evolved in its consistency and focus as he explored the many styles of yoga, including Ashtanga, Iyengar, Vinyasa, hot yoga and finally tantric Hatha, which is the basis of all yoga styles commonly practiced today.

Jacob received his 200-hour yoga teacher certification from master teacher Saumya Lauren Toolin and Yoga Vidya Academy in 2022. Through Yoga Vidya and Saumya Lauren, Jacob was initiated into the Himalayan tradition of Sri Vidya (meaning “auspicious, beautiful or joyful knowledge”), an unbroken lineage going back over 6000 years.
